We all have that bookish friend. The one that’s most likely to spend the Christmas break wrapped up in a wool blanket, drinking hot chocolate and flipping through the pages of a book. It can get a little difficult figuring out what book to give them this Christmas…it seems like they’ve read them all. So on our 8th day of OLX-mas, we’re helping you by coming up with a list of 8 possible gifts for that bookworm friend of yours.
If you have a Potterhead friend, chances are they’re going to be delighted by this Newt Scamander wand and scarf combo. That wand is, of course, for a little bit of novelty, but that scarf is a perfect addition to a visit to a cafe to read a book in this cold December weather.
Male or female, everyone loves a badass chick. If your friend is into autobiographies, then they’d likely enjoy Girlboss or Bossypants, written by NastyGal CEO Sophia Amoruso and well-loved comedienne Tina Fey respectively. Both books talk about making a name for themselves in a highly patriarchal society — something that definitely needs disrupting in 2017.
How about books not meant to be in shelves? A coffee table book might be a good idea for your friend, especially if they’re fans of The Rolling Stones or are interested in the history of the music industry. This is a nice addition to a bookworm’s home, complete with moments in rock and roll history that are meant to be remembered forever.
A great light read is Sarah Andersen’s Adulthood is a Myth, and it’ll surely get your friend a few good laughs. Any adult has gone through bizarre and sticky situations at some point in their lives — and it’s always good to laugh about the little things from time to time.
On a more serious note, Globalization and Its Discontents is a more sobering book for the philosophers at heart. If, indeed, “2016 is a year of realizing stuff” then this is a good book to carry in 2017 for a more prospective approach to life and society.
How about Baymax to keep your friend company during those late nights of reading? This cute little lamp is a perfect addition to their room, too!
No biases towards Harry Potter, but how amazing is this illustrated version of The Chamber of Secrets?
They never have to put down that book again with this nifty book lamp. Perfect for traveling, before bed, in dark cafes and restaurants. Whatever genre they’re into, this will be a good gift for your bookworm friend.
Happy Christmas shopping!
