Summer vacation is almost over, but not everyone was able to enjoy it fully because they have work or summer classes. Most people have to commute in overcrowded public utility vehicles in heavy traffic jams under this HOT weather every day. This causes commuters to be sticky, sweaty and a bit irritable. But don’t worry, there are some ways to keep cool and look fresh while commuting this summer. Check out our commuter tips for you.
Tip #1: Eat Small, Frequent Meals
Now, what do we mean by this? Well, eating large meals increases your metabolic heat as your body absorbs your food intake. So, eat small meals. But do remember to eat frequently, about 5-6 times a day, to keep yourself full throughout the day. Try eating on small plates and small food containers. They can dramatically help you control your portions.
Tip #2: Wear Something Light
Wear something lightweight and preferably light-colored cotton shirts. Cotton is a breathable fabric, has hypoallergenic properties and absorbs perspiration. Plus, studies show that light-colored fabric reflects the sun’s radiation whereas dark-colored synthetic fabric absorbs heat and radiation.
Tip #3: Stay Hydrated
Our body is composed of 70% water and drinking water helps decrease our body temperature. So, drink tons of water. Don’t forget to bring a tumbler with you to reduce the waste of plastic bottles and help the environment. Also, avoid any beverage that contains caffeine and alcohol as these drinks increase the body’s metabolic heat and promote dehydration.
Tip #4: Stay Under The Shade
Always bring an umbrella with you, preferably with some UV protection. An umbrella would also come in useful in case it suddenly rains. Alternatively, you can also wear a hat to reduce your exposure from the sun’s radiation.
Tip #5: Less Is More
Only wear accessories that you need. For the ladies, stay away from heavy makeup as much as possible. Instead of using your usual moisturizer, use Aloe Vera soothing gel and instead of liquid foundation, use powder foundation. Forget the dark and heavy smokey eye look for a while and wear nude eyeshadows to help your face feel light. It’s all about the substitution. Don’t forget the quick retouch once you get to your destination.
Tip #6: Keep It Cool
Tip #7: Music Is Life
We’ve all been through this situation where we’re stuck in a traffic and getting a bit impatient and annoyed as time passes by. But, you should calm down and control your temper. It adds up body heat and ruins your natural good looks by increasing your blood temperature and your stress hormones. So, stay calm, put on your earphones and play music on your phone. Music helps you relax. This decreases your blood temperature and increases your happy hormones.
